Fulham Wharf is a large-scale development in the South West London borough which is set to become a major retail and leisure destination, as well as providing much needed housing to the popular area.
Planning permission for the 3.2 hectare development was granted in spring 2012 and the development will take place on the site of disused warehouses on the bank of the Thames.
Work on the project is split into two phases – phase one includes the construction of a new Sainsbury’s superstore and 267 new homes, including shared ownership properties. Stage two includes demolishing the existing Sainsbury’s superstore and building a further 196 residences. As well as new homes and a new supermarket, the development will also include a range of amenities such as restaurants, cafes and bars, plus a picturesque landscaped garden and riverside walk. Alongside the new buildings, historic listed warehouses will be renovated to give the development further character.
Brickwork expertise from SIG CA
Brickwork expertise was required at the specification stage of this project as the majority of the development involves creating new townhouses and apartment buildings. Main contractor Barratt London got in touch with SIG Construction Accessories Business Development Manager and masonry specialist Terry Dovener at SIG CA Ruislip for technical advice for the build.
Terry recommended windposts, masonry support and sundries for the build and explains why the main contractor looked to SIG CA for advice, “We have a longstanding relationship with Barratt London and as well as being a trusted supplier, we also take off their jobs to help them with costing.
I visited the site in person and advised which products would be most suitable. When it came to delivering those products we booked the deliveries 24 hours in advance to ensure the teams on site had the materials they needed when required.”
The exciting new development in the heart of South West London is due for completion in December 2017.
